Implements automatic embedding for fonts

Today, November 18, 2016, Calibre developer Kovid Goyal announced the release and immediate availability of a new maintenance update for his widely-used, free, open-source, and cross-platform ebook library management software.

Calibre 2.72 arrives more than two weeks after the Calibre 2.71 anniversary update that introduced a brand new icon theme. By the looks of it, the Calibre developer was quite busy adding a bunch of new useful features and options, starting with the implementation of automatic embedding for fonts that have abnormal weight and stretch values.

Besides font embedding, Calibre 2.72 ships with a new option that lets users abort an in-progress Copy-to-library operation, support for generating a @font-face rule when attempting to add a font using the File -> New menu item in the Edit Book component, as well as copying it to the clipboard for easy insertion into a CSS file. Also, in Edit Book, the taskbar icon will now flash when the beautification of files completes.

More Edit Book improvements, lots of bug fixes

It looks like the Edit Book component received the most attention in the Calibre 2.72 update, as its Check Book functionality now warns users about links that contain the : character in them, and the Spell Check dialog's usability has been improved with support for highlighting the current word after changing it and the ability to preserve the position in the word list during a refresh.

Lastly, the Conversion component of Calibre will now allow recognizing basic metadata in markdown documents formatted using the markdown metadata extension when attempting to convert such docs. The Mediapart news source has been improved, and a bunch of issues reported by users since Calibre 2.71 have been fixed (check the changelog below for more details).
