Calibre developer Kovid Goyal has announced the release of version 2.66 of his popular, cross-platform, free, and open-source Calibre ebook library management software.

Calibre 2.66 comes just one week after the debut of the previous maintenance update, Calibre 2.65.1, and promises to bring the application's logo to a more simplified version, upgrade the driver for Kobo e-book readers to firmware 3.20, and add support for the fairly new PocketBook Touch HD reader.

Another interesting feature introduced in Calibre 2.66 is the ability to restrict the search functionality of the Edit Book component to only the files that have been opened for editing. Last but not least, the new Calibre maintenance release introduces a new news source, namely Contropiano.

DOCX Input and Output improvements, better HiDPI support

As expected with any new Calibre update, more and more bugs and annoyances reported by users from previous releases of the software are being squashed, and it looks like Calibre 2.66 is here to improve the right-to-left (RTL) alignment for footnotes in the DOCX Input component, as well as to add better support for HiDPI screens.

Moreover, users can now set up a mail relay that uses encryption without using any credential, as well as to finally use the "ignore collections" functionality for Kobo e-book readers, which was broken in previous releases. Calibre 2.66 also improves support for non-ASCII usernames on GNU/Linux operating systems.

Last but not least, it looks like the portable installer has been updated to automatically generate the installation folder specified by the user via command-line, and the DOCX Input and Output components have been greatly improved with better support for ignoring invalid text-indent values and the text-align CSS property.
