14 DAY TRIAL // Today, August 12, 2016, Calibre developer Kovid Goyal has proudly announced the release of a new maintenance update for the popular, open-source and cross-platform Calibre ebook library management software.
Calibre 2.64 is now the latest and most advanced version of the application designed for book lovers who prefer to use digital e-book readers to store their books in various file formats, as well as organize and convert ebooks from a format to another, if it's supported by Calibre, of course.
Release highlights include the ability to append text to the end of a marked text when using either of the search or replace function modes on the marked text, better shutdown on GNU/Linux and Mac OS X systems if a terminate or interrupt UNIX signal is received, and the implementation of a new "Short text" column type.
"More generally, you can now customize Comments-like columns, controlling how their headings are displayed in the Book Details panel and also specifying what kind of data they contain (plain text, HTML or even Markdown)," says Kovid Goyal in the release announcement.
Bug fixes, improved and new news sources
Also new in the Calibre 2.64 release is the addition of the _TOP_LEVEL_SECTION_ variable, which can be used in the footer or header templates that resolve to the current top-most section in ToC (Table of Contents). This new variable was implemented in the PDF Output component.
As with any new Calibre update, multiple issues reported by users since the previous maintenance release have been addressed, so you need to check out the changelog attached below for more details. Moreover, the Data News news sources have been added, and the Private Eye, Prospect Magazine, De Standaard, Jot Down, Weblogs SL, Hola, and El Correo news sources have been improved.
