Calculate Linux 17.6 images are now available for download

Calculate Linux maintainer Alexander Tratsevskiy is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability for download of Calculate Linux 17.6 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the project.

Calculate Linux is a Gentoo-based GNU/Linux distribution, and it was first announced on June 6, 2007. Designed mainly for Russian-speaking Linux users, Calculate Linux is an optimized operating system intended for rapid deployment in corporate environments. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, the latest release, Calculate Linux 17.6, is shipping with a brand-new edition called Calculate Linux Container, supporting the installation of LXC/LXD containers.

"We are happy to announce the release of Calculate Linux 17.6, marking the 10th anniversary of the project," says project leader Alexander Tratsevskiy. "This new version features installation in LXC/LXD containers, theme customization, more stability with automagic dependencies support, better security as editing the kernel params now requires a password and system update can be only performed by users authorized to do so."

What's new in Calculate Linux 17.6

Prominent features of Calculate Linux 17.6 include improved security by password-protecting the editing of kernel parameters and adding management of access privileges via Calculate Console to choose which users have access to system updates, a new 'sudo' group for sudo authentication, support for customizing system themes, Autopartition as default partition scheme for USB installs, various improvements for UEFI installations, and the latest package updates.

Among other noteworthy changes included in Calculate Linux 17.6, we can mention better detection of NVMe drives, support for fetching updates through a system proxy, better support for Kazakh and Bulgarian languages, initial Estonian support for Calculate Utilities, automatic configuration of network bridge interfaces, domain user login on systems supporting encrypted profiles, working PXE installation, as well as better support for computers with integrated Intel HD graphics cards.
