The developers behind the Calamares universal installer framework designed for GNU/Linux distributions have recently updated the open source software to version 2.4.3.

Calamares 2.4.3 is here two weeks after the previous maintenance update, versioned 2.4.3, and promises to add multiple improvements to the LUKS-based full-disk encryption, such as the ability to support early unlocking with Debian initramfs and Dracut, using the new initramfscfg and dracutlukscfg modules, respectively.

Furthermore, it includes several bug fixes that should further improve LUKS (Linux Unified Key Setup) support on Debian GNU/Linux operating systems and derivatives by adding better handling of /etc/crypttab, and addresses an issue that could have cause a LUKS encrypted installation to fail if other similar partitions were present.

"The partitioning module of Calamares 2.4.3 requires KPMcore 2.2 or 2.2.1. Further distribution-specific deployment adjustments may be needed for full LUKS support, for more details see the Calamares wiki," reads the announcement. "If you experience an issue with Calamares, please tell us all about it on the Calamares issue tracker."

C++/Qt batch job plugins are now supported

Among other exciting new features added to the third maintenance update to the Calamares 2.4 stable series of the universal installer framework, we can mention support for C++/Qt batch job plugins and the implementation of a brand new dummycpp job module that should get developers started with writing modules in C++.

Last but not least, Calamares 2.4.3 fixes the creation of a user during installation while respecting the list of default groups for new users, and adds support for the Deepin Linux distribution to the displaymanager module. Calamares 2.4.3 is now available for download, and you should know that it requires the KPMcore package version 2.2 or 2.2.1.
