Caitlyn Jenner was hailed as a hero when she came out on the cover of Vanity Fair last month, and it seems that she’s taking that role very seriously. Transitioning from male to female is not a private journey for her, so she intends to take the job that the media has already assigned to her: she will be the “hero” and the leader the LGBT community needs and has been asking for.

She makes that very clear in her first op-ed from a series that will be called “The Real Me” on WhoSay, “The Journey Begins.” She wants to be involved in the cause and she will do whatever she can to shed light to the community’s issues.

Caitlyn is ready to become an activist

You can see Caitlyn’s first post in full at the link above. In short, she says that, living life as Bruce, an American hero, and denying her identity for over 50 years, she lived isolated from the LBGT community.

It wasn’t until recently that she became acquainted with more trans-people and their stories. Most of them are sad, telling of occurrences Jenner never experienced because of her status as a celebrity. Most of them talk of personal struggles and abuse, and of overcoming all obstacles to embrace their true identity.

Understandably, Jenner is in awe for these brave men and women, and she’s decided to lend her voice to bring their stories to the public. She says that this will be the ultimate purpose of her series: offering others the chance to tell their story so that the entire world can see the need for equality and non-discrimination.

“Up until now, I have totally isolated myself from the transgender community so I have a lot of catching up to do,” Caitlyn writes. “I feel such a responsibility to this courageous group to try to get it right and tell all sides of the story. To me, that's always the biggest question: am I doing it right?”

The answer to that question might not be the one she’d like right now, but she’s getting there, step by step.

Activism will be included on upcoming docuseries

Embedded below is a new trailer for Jenner’s upcoming docuseries I Am Cait, which premieres on E! at the end of the month.

As you can see, it shows footage of Jenner speaking out to various groups of people about the importance of finding love and strength in a healthy support system, which would seem to confirm that she’ll be showing instances of LGBT activism on the series.

After all, in the Kardashian-Jenner universe, no good deed happens without a camera being present - that, or it doesn’t happen at all.

At the end of the video, Caitlyn is shown trying on dresses and she’s quite shocked to find out from step-daughter Kim Kardashian that she shares the same taste in wrap dresses as her ex-wife Kris Jenner. Isn’t life ironic sometimes?
