A lot of gamers criticized Destiny when it was initially launched, saying that Bungie oversold the game and under-delivered in terms of actual content, which led the development team to try and deliver a more complete experience with the coming The Taken King expansion.

The information comes from Jesse van Dijk, the lead concept artist working on the social shooter, who explains to GameReactor that the studio has always taken feedback coming from the community very seriously and wants to deliver a product that offers something for everyone.

An activity for every mood is one of the aims for The Taken King, and Bungie is also making sure that the new dreadnought area is more exciting than the planets that were part of the core Destiny launch.

Jesse van Dijk adds, "In many ways it represents our evolved vision of what a destination should be. It should be immediately appealing, but there should be consistently, secrets that reveal themselves, and treasures that you might run into."

The dreadnought is the home of Oryx, and Bungie wants the new area to encourage players to explore and to change the way they approach firefights.

The Taken King is also adding more powerful enemies associated with the new boss.

Bungie is tweaking character progression and weapons

One of the biggest changes that will affect all Destiny players is linked to the way Guardians gain levels, with the process now entirely based on experience, with the Light Levels relegated to a minor role, although they will be important for quick evaluations.

Bungie says the aim is to make the game easier to understand and to offer players a clearer idea about how they can make their characters more powerful.

The weapons in Destiny are also getting a big set of changes in the expansion, with the studio making modifications to the base stats and introducing new tools for the player to equip while also trying to make sure that more of the exotics are used in battle.

The coming expansion will also enhance the Crucible experience and will tweak the two modes, Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris, that were added when House of Wolves was launched.

The Taken King for Destiny will be introduced on all platforms on September 15, and some content will be offered exclusively for those who play on a PlayStation-branded console.
