14 DAY TRIAL // As we reported earlier this month, the Budgie 11 desktop environment is in the works, and it promises to bring lots of goodies to fans of the Solus Linux-based operating system later in December, hopefully.
In this story, we'd like to inform fans of the Budgie desktop environment about some of the upcoming features heading their way. Developer Ikey Doherty tells Softpedia that Budgie 11 is a major update, with a modular architecture, featuring a reacher UI (User Interface), actionable notifications, and multi-monitor support for the panel.
Talking about the panel, we bet that many will be enchanted to find out that Budgie 11 comes with a dock-like mode, which means that there's no need to install Plank or Cairo-Dock anymore if you want to have a setup like the one in the attached screenshot. Furthermore, the dock mode of the Budgie panel allows for custom styling.
Raven improvements, Budgie will be completely accessible
Among other new features that should be implemented in the upcoming Budgie 11 desktop environment, we can mention the ability to resize the Raven notification and control center, which will no longer feature any Budgie settings, but only widgets and notifications. The settings will be moved to a separate dialog.
RSS and Weather widgets are the most requested so far, and it looks like Budgie 11 will support them in Raven, which will be using a drawer mode by default, and overlapping panels. Additionally, Budgie 11 promises to be completely accessible, offer better support for plugins, and allow users to reorder widgets in the panel.
Autohide and/or Intellihide functionality is also coming to the Budgie panel, along with lockdown support, variable width panels, and the ability to place the panel on any edge. Last but not least, there might be a "Quiet Mode" (Do Not Disturb mode) for the Raven widgets and notification center. Budgie 11 is expected later in December, but won't be supported by Fedora or OpenSuSE.
