The phone might make it out in the second quarter of 2016

Apple is preparing for the launch of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which are going to hit the market around September, but at some point, a rumor sprung saying that the Cupertino tech giant might roll out a successor to the plasticky iPhone 5c which launched back in 2013.

Soon afterwards, it became apparent that even if Apple was planning to refresh its “budget” iPhone, the company wouldn’t do it this year. Now, a new report coming out of hit-and-miss Asian publication Digi Times says that the iPhone 6c will be launched in Q2 2016. But given the reputation of this website, you should be taking this information with a grain of salt.

The report also says that the iPhone 6c will make use of FinFET technology manufactured by Samsung (for 14nm node technology) and TSMC (for 16nm node technology). Apple is expected to use the A9 chip, which will also be manufactured by the two companies mentioned above, into its next-gen iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.

The iPhone 6c will take advantage of efficient chips

Apparently, originally Apple wanted to equip the iPhone 6c with a chip made using TSMC’s 20nm process, but ultimately it decided to go for newer technology in order to take advantage of improved power consumption.

The current report doesn’t say anything about the purported specifications of the phone, which are still a bit of a mystery. Earlier information would have us believe that the iPhone 6c will arrive with a metal build but will maintain an acceptable (depending on whom you ask) price tag.

Usually, Apple’s unveiling schedule is set for autumn, but it appears that next year the company will be hosting a special event for the iPhone 6c alone. Or maybe we’re going to see more devices/products launch, nobody knows for sure at this point.

As for this year’s new iPhone products, we have more details related to their internal specifications. This year, Apple is expected to offer the iPhone 6s with a 1080p resolution screen and the iPhone 6s Plus with a QHD display, but this information remains unconfirmed.

Other than that, we expect the phones to take advantage of an A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, 12MP camera, and the Force Touch technology (like in the Apple Watch) embedded into the display.
