Last week, Bristol Palin, daughter of former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin, announced that she was pregnant with her second child. In her statement, posted on her personal blog, she made it clear that she knew her family and friends were “disappointed” in her for the second time, for conceiving outside of marriage.

Bristol was engaged to a US Marine vet, but they called off the wedding at the last minute one month before the pregnancy announcement. She did not say whether he was the father, and she showed no hints of wanting to do that in the future.

From the way she worded the announcement, it sounded as if the pregnancy had been a surprise. It wasn’t, she says now.

“Deal with it,” haters!

You can see Bristol’s second statement on the topic in full below. She sounds very upset: upset that she’s being mocked and judged, even though she’d said she didn’t want anyone’s lectures or sympathy, and upset that people are saying she made a lot of money by becoming an abstinence spokesperson back in the day when she’d gotten pregnant with her first child, when she was just a teen.

She denies ever charging for the appearances she made to urge teens to save themselves for marriage, and says that she was only speaking out “for life.” In other words, she wasn’t an abstinence “spokesperson,” she was just someone who was pro-life and very vocal about it.

“This pregnancy was actually planned,” she writes. “Everyone knows I wanted more kids, to have a bigger family. Believing I was heading that way, I got ahead of myself. Things didn’t go as planned, but life keeps going. Life moves on.”

It sounds as if she and fiancé Dakota Meyer were so convinced they would spend the rest of their life together that they got a bit carried away with starting their own family.

Bristol insists she doesn’t regret becoming pregnant even though the situation is not “ideal” and that she’s excited to become a mother again. By the way, comparing her first pregnancy, when she was only 17, to this one is stupid, because she’s a grown, financially independent, experienced and responsible woman now.

So haters, “deal with it!”

The mystery of the canceled wedding

As noted above, Bristol and Dakota called off their wedding shortly before it was supposed to take place, and neither wanted to talk to the press about what happened behind closed doors to lead them to this.

Unofficially, it is believed that Bristol found out that he’d cheated on her and the sense of betrayal was such that she wanted out of the relationship right away, refusing him the chance to make it up to her.

Meyer has made only one comment on her pregnancy announcement so far, posting to Facebook that the world has more serious things to worry about (like the terrorist attacks taking place last week all over the world) than whether he is the father of Bristol’s child.
