His complaint: she's just not pretty enough without makeup

Not that there is a competition going on - or at least let's hope there isn't - but suing your wife for not looking pretty enough without makeup might be the worst way to start a marriage.

Unless you're planning on getting a divorce after less than a week of matrimonial bliss, in which case by all means go ahead and file suit.

This is not a purely theoretical talk

Our little chat about the absolute worst debut to a marriage is not a purely theoretical one. Au contraire, word has it that a man in Algeria actually dragged his wife to court on the grounds that seeing her bare face the morning after their wedding scarred him for life.

According to Emirates 24/7, the man never got to see his wife-to-be without makeup prior to their wedding ceremony. When she finally removed her makeup, she looked nothing like the woman he had fallen in love with.

So much so that, when he woke up and laid eyes on her bare face for the first time ever, the groom assumed that she was a thief. Then, when it dawned on him that he was looking at his bride, he decided that, vows of eternal love aside, he could not stay married to her.

“He said she looked very beautiful and attractive before marriage, but when he woke up in the morning and found that she had washed the make-up off her face, he was frightened as he thought she was a thief,” a court source told the press.

The man expects compensation

Rather than simply divorce her, the groom is now suing his wife on the grounds that she knowingly deceived him by hiding her true features with too much makeup.

He claims that, when he saw her real face, he suffered intense psychological and spiritual turmoil. Hence, he is entitled to $20,000 (€18,000) damages. For the time being, it is unclear whether the case will go to trial or will instead simply be dismissed.
