BQ, the Spanish company that recently released one of the few Ubuntu-powered smartphones, the Aquaris E4.5, confirmed it would make its debut in the UK next month.

However, the Spanish producer of smartphones and tablets won't bring the Ubuntu-powered smartphone in the UK; instead, fans of Cyanogen OS will be pleased to know that the Aquaris X5 will be introduced in the country next month.

According to O2 UK, BQ Aquaris X5 with Cyanogen OS onboard will be launched in the UK sometime in December. Also, O2 will be the first carrier to offer a Cyanogen OS-powered smartphone in the UK.

The Aquaris X5 isn't a high-end smartphone, but promises to deliver the much-needed bloat-free experience that Android fans can't benefit from unless they purchase a Nexus device.

“Based on Android, Cyanogen OS gives customers even more control over how their device looks and runs thanks to built-in applications including Privacy Guard, which helps users stay in control of what personal data their apps can access, and TrueCaller which helps identify calls and block spam,” explains O2 UK.

A good-looking mid-range smartphone

First of all, BQ Aquaris X5 comes with a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. Furthermore, the phone packs an impressive 13-megapixel camera at the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording.

At the front, there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video recording. BQ Aquaris X5 includes a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 412 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

Also, the smartphone drains energy from a 2,900 mAh battery that has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. Last but not least, Aquaris X5 comes preloaded with Cyanogen OS 12.1.

Potential customers might want to know that BQ Aquaris X5 will be launched in the UK at O2 sometime in early December.

It will be available on the carrier's Refresh scheme with plans starting at £19.50 per month, plus a £9.99 upfront cost, for 500 minutes, 500MB of 4G data, and unlimited texts.
