Bipedal motion will become even more seamless

Universally known in the entire world for their sinister but highly effective robotic inventions, Boston Dynamics improved at their game and invented the first intelligently walking bipedal legs.

Since Boston Dynamics have started their plan to fill the world with "Terminators," the world took them for their word when they saw their first invention, The Big Dog. A highly effective and sinister contraption that could run and walk on all terrain, Big Dog became a sensation worldwide when it was first shown to the media. Followed closely by Wildcat and by MIT's Cheetah, the evolution of the self-balanced all-terrain four-legged walker finally reached the bipedal level.

Using the same enthusiasm, Google's funds, and this time having much more visibility, Boston Dynamics went forward and brought the same minds and tech behind an even more ambitious project. Called Atlas, this bipedal humanoid robot can do the same stuff Big Dog managed to do with four legs, but this time with two. The massive Atlas robot can hold its balance, resist being struck in the side and take a walk in the woods, trekking just like any other ordinary human being, while it's not.

A predictable upgrade from the Big Dog

The new robot was shown in a video during a robotics conference in August that had researchers from MIT, DARPA and Harvard University all showing off their latest creations. Boston Dynamics participated with Atlas that was by all means impressive.

One of the main subjects of future robotics development was how humanity could use robots in hazardous environment. Also discussed at DARPA Challenge, inventors and researchers came with robotic solutions that turned robots into proxy machines for humans. On this subject Boston Dynamics also came with a more "mobile" solution offering a very stable walking robot that analyzes terrain and self-balances itself in case of loss of control.

Let's hope these robots will become useful in a very near future, while also remaining our faithful servants...
