14 DAY TRIAL // US-based company BLU Products has just launched yet another affordable Android smartphone in the United States. However, unlike any of the other handsets released by the OEM, the new Tank Xtreme 5.0 is a fully rugged device.
The first of its kind, BLU Tank Xtreme 5.0 is now available for purchase on Amazon for $129.99. The good news is BLU will be running a promotion today, February 10 (8:45pm EST until 2:45am EST, while supplies last) that will get you a $30 discount on the purchase of the smartphone.
Design-wise, BLU Tank Xtreme 5.0 looks and feels like a … tank. It's a massive device that features IP65 certification, so it can withstand just about all that you throw at it. First of all, the phone is water resistant and dust proof, then its rubber frame can absorb shocks.
Before throwing your money at BLU, it's worth mentioning that the Tank Xtreme 5.0 is sold unlocked, with dual-SIM support. It will work on all compatible GSM networks in the country including AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, MetroPCS, Straight Talk USA, and many others.
Also, don't expect any impressive features under the hood. A rugged device at nearly $130 won't pack high-end features, but it might be enough for those who don't want to break the bank to buy themselves a sturdy phone.
According to BLU, the Tank Xtreme 5.0 comes equipped with a quad-core MediaTek 6580 processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory (expandable up to 64GB via microSD card).
The 5-inch display supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating for the much needed extra protection against scratches and accidental drops.
On the back, the Tank Xtreme 5.0 packs an “advanced” 5-megapixel autofocus camera, while in the front there's a similar 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
BLU Tank Xtreme 5.0 is powered by a decent 3,000 mAh battery and ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box.
