BlackBerry Priv is going to run Android onboard

BlackBerry is expected to unveil its first Android smartphone in the upcoming months, a device which the rumor mill has dubbed Venice. The handset will be a silder and BlackBerry hopes the atypical form factor, coupled with the Android operating system, will be enough to make customers desire it.

While we’ve been calling the Android slider the BlackBerry Venice for quite a while now, a recent post by @evleaks reveals that the phone will arrive in retail under a different name, which is to be expected.

All four major carriers in the US are said to offer the device post-November, after BlackBerry has had a chance to unveil the slider. But customers looking to pick up the new smartphone will have to look for the BlackBerry Priv. That’s the name under which the Canadian company will make the slider available.

The Priv is rumored to carry model number STV100-G. At this point, we have to wonder whether Priv has something to do with “privacy” and if BlackBerry is aiming to unveil an extremely secure Android device (not that there aren’t super safe Android phones selling on the market right now).

Purported specs of the BlackBerry Priv

If we are to believe what the rumor mill is saying, the BlackBerry Priv is bound to make a debut with a 5.4-inch capacitive touchscreen display that offers support for QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). On the inside, the slider is expected to come equipped with a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, as is the case with the LG G4. The LG-made Nexus 5X is also expected to be based on the same chipset.

The phone will also take advantage of 3GB of RAM and will arrive with an 18MP main photo snapper with autofocus, LED Flash and video recording capabilities. We’re also told that the device will take advantage of several Microsoft apps and services including Skype and Bing.

At the moment, we don’t know the exact capacity of built-in storage that the BlackBerry Priv will offer, but given the fact that the phone will take advantage of a microSD card slot, your expansion needs will be taken care of.
