BlackBerry is expected to unveil its upcoming smartphone next month, with the company CEO having stated a while back that, this year, BlackBerry could actually launch two handsets, codenamed Hamburg and Rome. Now, it seems that BlackBerry Hamburg has just received Wi-Fi certification, and the document reveals that the device might be rebranded as TCL Alcatel Idol 4.

TCL is the company that produces the Alcatel line of smartphones, and by the looks of things, it could be rebranding one of its devices with the BlackBerry name. This wouldn't be so surprising, considering that BlackBerry CEO John Chen recently hinted at new deals with companies other than Foxconn, which designed and manufactured some BlackBerry devices.

Documents from the Wi-Fi Alliance show that a TCL device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow has received Wi-Fi certification. The handset's codename is DTEK-50, and the moniker resembles the security and privacy app found on the BlackBerry Priv.

Although the information isn't conclusive, it does hint in the direction of BlackBerry having a deal with TCL. In addition, the model number for the device that has received Wi-Fi certification was STH100-2 while Priv's code number was STV100-1. The information came from leakster Roland Quandt.

BlackBerry Hamburg could come with a 5.2-inch screen

The latest rumors on the BlackBerry Hamburg show that the device could pack a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. At its core, the smartphone could hide a Snapdragon 617 SoC and an octa-core 1.5GHz CPU paired Adreno 405 GPU.

The device could also have 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. Rear camera capacity should reach 12MP, and an 8MP selfie snapper could be featured on the front. The device is expected to run Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box. As for its price, rumors suggest that the device could cost up to $400.

BlackBerry Hamburg or TCL Alcatel Idol 4 should be released soon, considering that the device has just received Wi-Fi certification. More information on the matter should surface soon.
