But only if the PRIV proves to be successful next year

Canadian company BlackBerry has recently announced its Q3 fiscal 2016 results, and looking at the number, things are going pretty well.

However, there was no information whatsoever regarding BlackBerry PRIV sales since the smartphone was launched on the market in early November and there was not enough time for these sales to accrue.

The good news is things are looking good for BlackBerry PRIV, the company's CEO John Chen confirmed during an interview with Bloomberg.

BlackBerry PRIV is only available in four countries at the moment, but the Canadian company plans to launch the smartphone in 31 regions in the next three months, which will certainly boost its sales.

When asked whether or not his company plans to launch a second Android smartphone, John Chen said that it depends on PRIV's sales, and BlackBerry's strategy proves to be efficient.

“If it's well received in the market, and there's a good chance of that, we will still focus on the high-end, probably closer to mid-range, coming out in 2016,” said John Chen.

Lower specs, but no compromises when it comes to software

Basically, this means that BlackBerry might take into consideration a slightly cheaper Android smartphone for next year, thus avoiding competition with flagship smartphones from Samsung, LG, HTC or Motorola.

While a cheaper BlackBerry smartphone powered by Android probably means lower specs, we doubt the Canadian company will make any compromises when it comes to software.

The next Android handset launched by BlackBerry should provide the same level of privacy and security as the PRIV, or else it might not be so popular among consumers.

Until more details on BlackBerry's plans regarding the mobile division, the Canadian company has some major announcements related to self-driving car software scheduled for CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2016.

Speaking to Bloomberg, John Chen confirmed that he would love his company to work on self-driving car technology with major players in the market like Apple, Google and Tesla. We'll find out more about that early next month at CES 2016.
