BlackBerry smartphones aren't dead, at least not yet, and that is confirmed once again by the latest renders of the rumored KEYone successor BlackBerry "Athena."

Possible renders of the BlackBerry "Athena" smartphone appeared online earlier today via SlashLeaks, suggesting BlackBerry hasn't forgotten its fans and it is still working on the successor of the BlackBerry KEYone phone with a full QWERTY keyboard and modern mobile technologies like dual-camera system.

According to previous rumors, the Android-powered BlackBerry "Athena" smartphone is keeping the keyboard-based design but will have larger keys than its predecessor. The phone could come with a Snapdragon 660 chip, 6GB or 8GB of RAM and have 64GB internal storage, as well as dual backside cameras for better pictures and portraits with bokeh effect.

As far as the overall design goes, the BlackBerry "Athena" renders suggest the device will have all the buttons (volume up, volume down, power, etc.) on the right side, the SIM and Micro SD card slots on the left side, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top and USB-C port at the bottom.

BlackBerry is yet to confirm "Athena"

While these new renders look quite promising, especially to long-time BlackBerry fans, unfortunately, they remain a dream to many until BlackBerry confirms it is indeed working on the KEYone successor codenamed "Athena." Until then, one can only be patient and hope for a new BlackBerry model later this year.

What we know so far is that BlackBerry Mobile officially confirmed earlier this year that it is working on a least two new Android-powered smartphones with full keyboard design, expected to arrive sometime in 2018. However, three new codenames popped up a few weeks later, namely Athena, Luna, and Uni.
