On the first day of March, the Arch Linux-based BlackArch Linux operating system designed for penetration testing and ethical hacking operations received a new ISO snapshot.

With over 1700 ethical hacking and pentesting tools pre-installed, BlackArch Linux 2017-03-01 is out and is based on the Arch Linux 2017-03-01 install medium released earlier, which has dropped support for 32-bit installations.

However, BlackArch Linux 2017-03-01 is available with separate Live ISOs for both 32-bit and 64-bit computers, as well as a 64-bit OVA image that you can use in the VirtualBox, QEMU, or VMWare virtualization software.

The BlackArch Linux 2017-03-01 ISOs come with more than 50 new penetration testing and hacking tools, an updated installer that has been bumped to version 0.3.3, as well as the Linux 4.9.11 kernel packages that are also present in the Arch Linux 2017-03-01 ISOs.

Other than that, it looks like all system packages have been updated, along with some of the in-house built BlackArch tools and the menu entries for the Openbox, Fluxbox, and Awesome window managers.

Existing users need only to install the latest updates

The dependencies and installation scripts for several tools have also been improved in the BlackArch Linux 2017-03-01 ISO images, which you can download right now from our website or the project's homepage if you want to deploy the OS on new PCs.

Existing users need only to make sure that they have all the latest updates installed by running the "sudo pacman -Syu" command in a terminal emulator or the virtual console. As a new kernel version is available, you'll need to reboot your machines.

We recommend visiting the official website of BlackArch Linux to get yourself familiar with all the tools that are included in these ISO images, as well as any other information you need to get started with using the penetration testing distro on your personal computer.
