Roberto J. Dohnert informs Softpedia today on the availability of an update to the Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11 operating system series with patches for the Meltdown and Spectre security vulnerabilities.

Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11.51 is now available for download, a minor update to the GNU/Linux distribution that includes the patches against the Meltdown security vulnerability, as well as partial protection against Spectre attacks. However, existing users need only to update their installations.

"Today we have released Black Lab Enterprise Linux 11.51. This release addresses the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities in Intel Processors. We have included no new features," says Roberto J. Dohnert, Black Lab Software CEO. "To apply the fix simply run your system updater and the fix will be applied."

The update doesn't cause any boot issues or other malfunctions

Roberto J. Dohnert told us that he and his team thoroughly tested these patches, as well as the new ISO image for Black Lab Enterprise Linux, which is based on the long-term supported Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus) operating system series, and it won't cause any boot issues or other malfunctions to users' computers.

If you're reinstalling or deploying Black Lab Enterprise Linux on new computers, it is highly recommended that you use the new ISO image, which can be downloaded right now through our software portal of Linux programs. On the other hand, Roberto J. Dohnert said that corporate customers could get it via their digital lockers.

Either way, you are urged to update your Black Lab Enterprise Linux installations to protect them against the critical Meltdown and Spectre security exploits as soon as possible, and keep them up-to-date all times. You should also check to see if your Black Lab Enterprise Linux PC is fully protected against Meltdown/Spectre or not.
