A few moments ago, Softpedia has been informed by Black Lab Software about the general availability of the sixth DP (Developer Preview) build of the upcoming Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 8 OS.

Sporting a new kernel from the Linux kernel from the 4.2 series, Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 8 Developer Preview 6 arrives today for early adopters and public beta testers with real-time kernel patching, which means that you won't have to reboot your Black Lab Linux Enterprise OS after kernel upgrades.

"DP6 offers you a window into what's new and whats coming when Black Lab Enterprise Desktop and Black Lab Enterprise Desktop for Education is released. As with our other developer previews it also aids in porting your applications to the new environment," said Roberto J. Dohnert, CEO, Black Lab Software.

What's new in Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 8 DP6

Release highlights of Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 8 Developer Preview 6 include the latest LibreOffice 5.1 open-source office suite for all your office work needs (includes calc, writer, draw, impress, base, charts, and math), accounting software, print and press facilities, as well as the world's most advanced open source database, PostgreSQL 9.5.2.

Black Lab Software also managed to add the Oracle VirtualBox virtualization software for running other operating systems on top of Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 8, the lightweight Fluxbox window manager as an alternative desktop environment, Wine 1.8 for running Windows applications, and the Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail and news suite with Google Apps support.

The Mint Update Manager is also available, ported from the Linux Mint operating system, and it looks like the default web browser for Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 8 Developer Preview 6 is the open source Chromium, which will be replaced with Google Chrome in the final release. The Fogger Web App utility is present too, but it will be replaced by Peppermint Ice in the final release of the OS.

Black Lab Linux Enterprise Desktop 8 Developer Preview 6 is available for download via our website as a Live ISO image supporting only 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms. When testing it, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for deployment in production-ready environments. The system is currently based on Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf).
