Here’s how a black iPhone 7 resists scratches

Apple’s iPhone 7 sales are now going live in various markets across the world and, unsurprisingly, the newly-introduced black version is the most popular and is already sold out in several stores.

And while the matte black version indeed looks nice (opinions on the glossy version are still mixed, but this model is sold out as well in some countries), it’s interesting to find out if it is as scratch resistant as Apple claims it to be, especially because the company has made some changes in this regard.

First and foremost, it’s worth warning that this video could be painful for the typical Apple fanboy because an iPhone 7 is being totally destroyed here.

Then, as YouTuber JerryRigEverything points out, it might involve scratches that your phone is unlikely to suffer if you take care of it properly and don’t wear blades in the same pocket as the iPhone 7.

Good scratch resistance

In terms of scratch resistance, the iPhone 7 reaches level 6, which is strong enough to withstand the typical damage caused by keys and coins that might be in your pocket.

Additionally, and this is very important to note, the new touch-sensitive button and the rear camera do not feature sapphire and they’re both covered in hard glass. And while this glass offers high strength, it’s not as scratch resistant as sapphire, but you should be fine with it anyway, the YouTuber agrees.

Apple also used metal side buttons, which also offer superior durability, so the iPhone offers generally good resistance to scratches and can withstand the typical everyday “abuse.” On the other hand, it fails to resist blades, and this kind of makes sense, but you’re not supposed to try this on the iPhone anyway.

In the end, this video is worth a look if you want to see what the iPhone 7 is capable of, but make sure you don’t try this at home when your model arrives. Chances are you’re going to use a case for it, so you’re safe anyway.
