Bill Gates recently announced during a Fox TV interview, that he switched to an Android phone, and dismissed the idea of owning an iPhone.

The name Bill Gates is almost representative of Microsoft, even if he’s no longer involved in the company all that much. You would expect him to have a Windows phone, but that’s pretty much a dead project. After all, he needs something with apps, and he’s not going to use an iPhone.

Why is this the obvious choice for Bill Gates? The reason is quite simple. Microsoft is heavily invested in the Android ecosystem, and they have a ton of apps. The company would be remiss if it didn’t recognize a simple fact. Google covers a large majority of the market, which means that most Windows users have an Android phone.

Many of the apps developed by Microsoft for Android tie in their own cloud business, including Office 365 and a few others. In this way, Microsoft is getting the best of both worlds, especially after they failed to make the Windows phone a real thing.

Casually announcing the use of an Android phone

Bill Gates was invited on a Fox TV show and admitted he uses an Android phone. Nobody asked him about it, and he didn’t offer any reason. The most likely explanation has to do with the Fall Creators Update for Windows 10.

Users will be able to link their Android devices to the Windows PC, sharing links and other actions between the two platforms. There is also Cortana integration as well. For now, only Android is supported, with iOS waiting in the queue.

What Android phone is Bill Gates using?

The most likely device for Bill Gates will be some Galaxy device from Samsung, possibly one of the latest. Microsoft and Samsung have a partnership, so he might have opted for one of those.

On the other hand, Microsoft apps work well on other Android devices, so a much more suited phone would be a Pixel from Google, which is a much more vanilla experience. Unless he chooses to reveal that information we can only guess.

The interviewer also asked him about getting an iPhone, but he quickly dismissed the idea with a smile: “No, no iPhone.”
