The device could come with 90 percent screen-to-body ratio

Rumor has it that the Samsung Galaxy S9 won’t come with too many dramatic changes, though some important hardware upgrades will still happen, including refinements to the phone’s bezels.

While this isn’t the first time we hear about Samsung reducing the size of the bezels on the Galaxy S9, a new report from SamMobile and citing an unnamed tipster indicates that the South Korean firm could go as far as achieving a screen-to-body ratio of no less than 90 percent.

This is without a doubt an important milestone in terms of phone design, and a substantial upgrade from the existing generation which features a screen-to-body ratio of just 84 percent. Apple’s iPhone X is currently at 82.9 percent.

Invisible bottom bezels

How’s this possible, you could ask. As it turns out, the plan is to reduce the bottom bezels as much as possible, down to the point where you can barely see it.

This is the only place where Samsung can actually reduce the bezels in such a substantial manner, as the top side of the screen will be the home of the facial recognition cameras and possible 3D sensing modules for a more advanced facial recognition system similar to the one on the iPhone X.

But Samsung is also planning some improvements at the top of the screen as well and even here the bezel is expected to be slightly smaller.

Obviously, these are just rumors for the time being, but since the debut of the Galaxy S9 is expected to take place in January, it means the device is already in an advanced development stage. Speculation tends to become more accurate as we get closer to the official launch of new phones, as more people get to see it and many more leaks reach the web.

But as always, some skepticism is still recommended, at least until some photos with the Galaxy S9 reach the web to provide us with a closer look at the phone.
