Nokia 8110, also known as the banana phone is making a comeback after 20 years, and it’s everything that you would imagine for a remake.

If you don’t remember the Nokia 8110, it means that you’re way too young and most likely this phone isn't meant for you. The original version launched in a way that you don’t get to experience anymore, with the help of a movie.

That’s right, the Nokia 8110 is the famous banana phone from the Matrix. Back then, seeing a curved phone and a sliding protective cover for the keyboard was something unique. Since the Matrix was a pretty big deal, the demand for this phone exploded after the film’s release, and it was enough to keep the concept alive within an entire generation.

New Nokia 8110 is basically the same, and that’s good

Nokia is now in the process of reviving old classics. Their latest version of Nokia 3310 managed to get some traction, and it seems to have warranted the revival of another classic.

The new Nokia 8110 is somewhat of a bridge between a feature phone and a smartphone. It comes with a dual-core 1.1GHz Qualcomm 205 processor, a small 2.4-inch display, 512 RAM, and just 4GB of storage. It might not seem like much, but it’s more than enough.

The phone is also powered by KaiOS (forked from Firefox OS), and there is no touchscreen as the user is controlling the cursor with a D-pad. Also, the keyboard is T9, and that means that you’ll have to press multiple times on keys to get to the right letter.

It’s also important to mention that despite the low hardware characteristics, the device comes with a 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS. There is also a selection of a few major apps such as Twitter, Facebook, and a few others, but don’t get your hopes up for too many apps.

If you fancy getting one of these bad boys, you’ll also have to keep in mind that it comes with a 2MP back camera, which is just there for show, and the cover that covers up the keyboard doesn’t spring like the one in the movie. On the other hand, the battery will offer close to 25 days of standby with just one charge.

The new phone should be available sometime in May, first in Europe for €79 (100$), in both yellow and black.
