Zbigniew Konojacki has informed us today about the release and immediate availability for download of the BakAndImgCD 22.0 data backup and disk imaging Live CD based on the latest 4MLinux technologies.

Being an official fork, BakAndImgCD always incorporates the newest packages and kernels from the independently-developed 4MLinux operating system, and the new release is here based on 4MLinux Backup Scripts 22.0, which allows users to perform data backup and disk cloning operations on a wide range of filesystems and OSes.

BakAndImgCD 22.0 runs directly from the bootable medium, be it either a USB flash drive or CD/DVD disc, which means that you can use it independently of the operating system installed on the target computer, such as GNU/Linux, macOS, or Windows.

Supported filesystems include Btrfs, EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, XFS, Reiser4, ReiserFS, JFS, F2FS, and NILFS2 on Linux and UNIX machines, HFS and HFS+ on OS X platforms, and FAT16, FAT32, or NTFS on Microsoft Windows computers. The disk cloning/imaging part is powered by the Partclone, Partimage and GNU ddrescue tools.

"BakAndImgCD is an official 4MLinux fork, which has been designed to perform the following two tasks: data backup (the supported filesystems are: btrfs, ext2, ext3, ext4, f2fs, fat16, fat32, hfs, hfs+, jfs, nilfs2, ntfs, reiser4, reiserfs, and xfs) and disk imaging (using Partimage, Partclone, and GNU ddrescue)," said Zbigniew Konojacki.

4MLinux 22.0 expected to launch in early July 2017

If you're waiting for the final release of the 4MLinux 22.0 operating system, the developers informed us that it should be finalized in early July 2017, powered by the Linux 4.9 LTS (Long Term Support) kernel and GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6.2.0. 4MLinux 22.0 will be supported until March 2018.

You can download BakAndImgCD 22.0 right now from our website if you want a free, text-based Live CD that can perform various backup and cloning operations on lots of filesystems and operating systems. BakAndImgCD 22.0 is distributed as a Live ISO image that you can write on a USB stick or CD disc.
