One more reason to stop using Microsoft Edge

Google is working on adding Precision Touch support in the next version of Google Chrome, and the latest Canary builds already include such functionality for beta testers ahead of the public launch.

While Google hasn’t published an announcement in this regard, the most recent Canary build of Google Chrome already bundled Precision Touchpad support, and if no major bugs are discovered, this feature should be promoted to the next channels very soon. This means there’s a good chance it’ll be part of the next Chrome stable release, though everything depends on bugs and issues discovered in the meantime.

Why is Precision Touchpad such an important addition to the Google Chrome feature arsenal? With such functionality, users whose laptops are equipped with such touchpads can get a substantially improved experience in Google Chrome, with much smoother scrolling and zooming similar to what macOS users get in Safari on their Apple devices.

Microsoft Edge already offering such features

By the looks of things, this is exactly what’s to come in Google Chrome, as the existing versions of the browser only simulate mouse scroll wheel events and obviously suffer from a small delay whenever scrolling is triggered.

On the other hand, Windows 10 users can already benefit from Precision Touch support in the operating system with Microsoft Edge, which is being offered as the default browser instead of Internet Explorer.

Microsoft has put a lot of effort into improving Edge browser lately, and this is one of the top features, though by the looks of things it won’t be exclusive anymore starting with the next Chrome build.

At this point, Google Chrome is the leading desktop browser with some 60 percent market share, and the addition of Precision Touch could mean users have one less reason to stick with Microsoft Edge in Windows 10. You can try out the latest Canary build by downloading Google Chrome right now, though it’s important to know that these versions typically come with bugs and performance issues.
