Taylor’s boyfriend Calvin Harris defends her once more

Avril Lavigne doesn’t like it when people point out that she’s more awkward around her fans than, say, Taylor Swift, especially if the aforementioned Taylor makes a fuss about it online. So Avril is calling her out on Twitter.

The other day, Taylor liked a post on Tumblr that compared her meet and greets with fans to those of other artists, including Avril, Katy Perry and Kanye West. The post was obviously favorable to Taylor, who has often said that she considers her fans friends, not strangers, and as a result, she always acts very lovingly towards them.

Oppositely, there are instances when the other 3 artists posed for pictures with their fans looking as if they wished they could have been in any other place but that.

Avril says comparisons are out of place

You can see the post favorited by Taylor included in Avril’s first tweet on the topic. It was brought to her attention by a fan account, and she decided to make a statement on it, saying no one should ever compare one artist to another.

When you compare and pass judgement, as the photo and Taylor implicitly did, that said more about yourself than it did about the things you compared, she added. She followed that up with collages of photos of herself with her own fans, saying all artists loved their fans, even if it might not always be crystal clear from photos.

While Avril’s message is beautiful and she manages to avoid dragging Taylor through the mud, there’s no denying that she tended to be very awkward with her fans in the past. The photo attached to this article is from her most recent meet and greet, which actually went viral because of how awkward it turned out to be.

In all the photos, Avril made sure to keep a good distance between herself and the fans, not to touch them and basically not make an effort to make them feel like this was an amazing moment for them.

In her defense, at the time, she was still struggling with Lyme disease, which she contracted in mid-2014 and is still under treatment for.

Calvin Harris is Taylor Swift’s knight in shining armor

This could have ended at that, had it not been for Calvin Harris, who, it seems, is reading up on everything related to his girlfriend Taylor Swift.

The DJ responded to Avril within minutes of her first posting, in a now-deleted tweet. “[Taylor] didn't judge you,” he wrote. “She doesn't judge anyone. She was only having fun with her fans, not trying to compare herself to you.”

Probably realizing how wrong it was to get mixed up like this in stuff that didn’t concern him, Harris deleted his message.

This is the second time this month that he comes rushing to her defense whenever he feels as if she’s under attack by another artist. Last week, he got into a bitter spat with Zayn Malik of One Direction fame, after he favorited a tweet praising Miley Cyrus for speaking about making music as of an art, while Taylor Swift was only focused on making money.

Zayn and Calvin eventually called a truce on Twitter, but the latter came out looking the worst for starting it.
