Avast Antivirus has recently received an update that brings improvements on Windows 10 computers and fixes some of the issues users previously experienced with the firewall.

Avast continues to be one of the most popular security solutions in the Windows community, mostly thanks to its freeware license, so it’s critical to the company to continue improving it in order to address the bugs that users come across.

Version 11.1.2253, which is available for Avast Free Antivirus and Avast Internet Security, brings a new firewall driver for Windows 8 and Windows 10, which finally fixes problems that users encountered with the firewall. Due to this bug, the firewall was unable to start on some PCs running these two Windows versions, so updating to the new version should fix it.

At the same time, the new version also comes with improvements to SecureLine, as it includes a new OpenVPN method and enhanced security, as well as options to make turning off email signatures easier (previously, Avast automatically scanned your email messages and added a signature to let your recipients know that you were using this security app).

Avast in latest security tests

Avast antivirus continues to be one of the most effective solutions when it comes to blocking malware and protecting users' computers, and recent research conducted by German institute AV-TEST confirms it.

Avast obtained 6 points for protection, 5 points for performance, and 6 points for usability, thus becoming one of the best solutions in the tests. The leaders were Kaspersky, BitDefender, and Avira, all getting 6 out of 6 points for each of the three categories, so Avast wasn’t so far behind.

Certainly, an effective antivirus application is not all about its engine, but it also comes down to how users manage to protect their computers and avoid clicking on malicious links that could download infected files.
