avast! Free Antivirus (reviewed here) has been certified as being compatible with the new operating system from Microsoft, Windows 8. Although there are other security products enjoying this approval, Avast’s is the first free of charge to receive it.

As such, it is also the first free security product that makes it to Windows store. Earning the right to display the logo is not as easy as some may think, all the more in the case of a security product and considering the innovations.

An example would be the Avira products, which, at the moment, are not ready for Windows 8; the developer is hard at work and compatibility will be available in early 2013.

Since Microsoft also provides its own free, security product (Security Essentials), Avast did not miss the chance to show off its superior offer, if only for the sake of contrast and comparison.
