Because the security of our computer is the main concern for security companies and for all the users of the systems, a powerful antivirus solution is almost a must as long as the infections are continuously spreading on the Internet. avast! Antivirus is surely one of the most popular security applications in the entire world because the Home Edition version is distributed as freeware on the official page of the company. Although some users might think the freeware license is offered because the antivirus
is not so efficient, the power of the application is also included in multiple programs, available for certain needs: Professional or Server Edition.
I guess that many users already installed avast! Antivirus so all of them must know that security company Secunia reported a vulnerability in the Server Edition that can allow an attacker to bypass several restrictions. Although the firm rated the flaw as "less critical", the antivirus provider confirmed it and released an updated version of the application.
"A security issue has been reported in avast! Server Edition, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to bypass certain security restrictions. The problem is that the application fails to require a password before being allowed to change certain settings even if the password has been set," Secunia reported in a security advisory.
Both companies mentioned in the security advisory that the only available solution to fix the security flaw is to update the antivirus program to the version 4.7.726 because all the previous editions are affected by the vulnerability.
avast! Antivirus Server Edition was also tested by Softpedia and is available as a free download on
this link. More details about the improvements included in the latest version are available on the official page of the company and also on Softpedia.
