Today, August 31, 2016, GitHub has had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability of the Atom 1.10 stable version of their hackable text editor for application developers and programmers, along with the Beta of Atom 1.11.

Atom 1.10 is here exactly 30 days after the launch of the Atom 1.9 and Atom 1.10 Beta builds on the first day of August 2016. As promised during the Beta stages of development, the biggest new feature of the Atom 1.10 stable release is the upgrade of the Atom Package Manager (APM) to run on Node 4.4.5 and npm 3.10.5.

According to the release notes, the new APM version has multiple benefits, starting with the minimalization of the package dependencies required to run Atom, which should solve many issues with path length restriction on Windows platforms, and continuing with much easier installation of packages when you're behind a proxy server.

Additionally, the Atom Package Manager upgrade implemented in Atom 1.10 promises to make the installation of packages that depend on native modules more reliable. The list of changes continues with the addition of a new System panel in the Settings View, allowing those who use Atom on Windows OSes to have more control over shell integrations, and integration of several UI inputs and controls.

Here's what's coming to Atom 1.11

As you might have guessed, work on the next stable version, namely Atom 1.11, has already started, and among the biggest features to be implemented, we can mention a new dialog that asks users to submit their feedback about the application, or not, multiple improvements to the image-view package, as well as to the Split Pane menu items, which should finally work as initially designed.

As usual, you are invited to study the full changelog if you're curious to see what exactly has been changed or fixed in the Atom 1.10 release, which you can download right now via our website for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Atom 1.11 Beta is also available for download today if you want to give it a try.
