AT&T is one of the many US carriers that released Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the original Motorola Moto X. The update is now pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, which means it might take a few days until it reaches all devices.

It appears that only some Moto X units will be getting the update in the first phase, but AT&T has already confirmed the general rollout will commence this week.

It's also worth mentioning that AT&T has made the Android 5.1 Lollipop update available for everyone that wants to pull it from the servers before it's pushed live.

This means that you will be able to manually check for the update directly from your original Moto X and if it's available then you can download and install it.

Keep in mind though that the update requires between 200 to 400MB of free space on the Moto X, so make sure you have that storage available before attempting to download it.

Lots of updates for Motorola apps and services have been added

According to the official changelog, Android 5.1 Lollipop brings the new Material Design UI featuring a new, colorful and responsive experience.

Also, the update contains many new feature including new notification controls, an improved battery saver, improved on-device security and more.

AT&T also mentions that Android 5.1 Lollipop should bring updates to Motorola Assist, Motorola Migrate, NFC (Near Field Communication), Active notification, Motorola Experience Touchless Countrol, SmartBost audio, and MotoCare.

Moreover, some other planned fixed, updates, and enhancements have been implemented into Android 5.1 Lollipop for the original Motorola Moto X.

According to AT&T, for the time being, Android 5.1 Lollipop for Motorola Moto X (XT1058) is only available using Wi-Fi only. If you want to download it via cellular network you will have to wait a while.
