The Galaxy S5 is one of the many smartphones that Samsung is likely to upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

Even though the South Korean company has yet to officially confirm the list of devices eligible for this upgrade, source familiar with Samsung's plans have already leaked details on the matter.

However, many carrier-branded Galaxy S5 models have received Android 5.1.1 Lollipop yet, which contains some security improvements and a few new features.

Obviously, Samsung could upgrade these devices directly to Marshmallow, but it will take at least a few more months until the update becomes available for carrier-branded Galaxy S5 units.

One of these Galaxy S5 variants that was still on Android 5.0 Lollipop was AT&T's version. The good news is that the carrier has just announced it has kicked off the rollout of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The update is only available via Wi-Fi

Furthermore, AT&T published the official changelog for this update, which contains the most important changes that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings to Galaxy S5 users.

First of all, the update brings Android for Work and major security enhancements. Also, AT&T confirmed the update includes a fix to Ultra Power Saver mode for devices using On Device Encryption.

The rollout has started on October 22 and is available via download using FOTA (firmware over the air). Keep in mind that you will need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network in order to download this update.

AT&T also states the size of the upgrade file is between 610MB and 1GB, so make sure you have enough storage space before attempting to update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

This should be the last major update that AT&T Galaxy S5 receives until Samsung releases the highly-anticipated Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for this particular device, so here is hoping that will come sooner rather than later.
