Business customers can only choose Windows 8.1

Microsoft wants to bring Windows 10 on every single device running Windows 7 or 8.1, and it hopes its partners will do the same, but for the moment, it seems that not everyone’s willing to go for this approach.

AT&T, for example, will soon start selling the Microsoft Surface 3 tablet with LTE support to business customers, but contrary to what everyone expected, all devices will run Windows 8.1 Pro. They will indeed be upgradeable to Windows 10, but the device that’s “powerful enough to replace your laptop,” as AT&T explains, will come with Windows 8.1 by default.

While it’s hard to find a reason why the American carrier isn’t offering Windows 10 from the very beginning and is letting customers do the whole upgrade thing, it’s still a good offer that Surface 3 buyers should take advantage of if they want more enterprise solutions on their devices.

“It also has enhanced data encryption, remote desktop connection and domain join, which allows the tablet to securely connect to company domains. With accessories like the optional Type Cover keyboard and Surface Pen (accessories sold separately), you will be able to work like you’re in the office when you’re on the go,” AT&T says when describing the enterprise capabilities of the Surface 3.

Microsoft Surface 3 with LTE AT&T pricing

In the United States, AT&T customers who want to purchase a Surface 3 tablet with LTE support can choose from three different options.

The first one is the Surface 3 with Windows 8.1 Pro for $37.50 with installment price, while the second costs $649.99 with a two-year wireless service agreement. Last but not least, you can get the device with no annual commitment for $749.99.

The Surface 3 included in this offer comes with 4GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space and can be upgraded to Windows 10 free of charge.
