The LG G4 is getting patched against this massive threat

Discovered not so long ago, the Stagefright Android vulnerability revealed how intrinsically easy it is for hackers to gain access to all the data stored on a phone, without the owner being aware of it.

The flaw was said to be affecting a whopping 95% of the Android devices running version 2.2 to 5.1 of the operating system, so naturally a lot of people freaked out about their prospects of being hacked.

Luckily, device manufacturers and carriers have been working hand in hand in order to quickly deliver updates that fix this vulnerability. Samsung was among the first smartphone makers to do so. It also promised it would deliver monthly security updates to prevent its devices from being exposed. Google did the same, too.

Motorola, HTC and OnePlus soon followed suit and everyone’s fears seem to have been put to rest. Even so, there are concerns that these updates don’t really solve things permanently and the phones are still open to attacks.

Owners of the LG G4 under AT&T and T-Mobile will soon get an update

Anyway, this week, we get word that US carriers T-Mobile and AT&T have started rolling out a fix for the Stagefright exploit for the LG G4 flagship. The AT&T update is sized at 46.7MB and will leave your device with Android 5.1 (build LMY47D) and software version H81010I.

AT&T has just started rolling out the update OTA (over-the-year), so it might be a while before you see it arrive on your device. As always, you can also check manually to see if you received it or not.

Moving on to T-Mobile, users on its network have the choice of waiting for the OTA update or just downloading and installing the patch directly on their smartphone. The new build bumps the device’s software version from H81110H to H81110N and takes a lot more space than the AT&T counterpart, coming in at 353MB.

That’s because T-Mobile has slipped in an extra thing or two, as the update also adds a Slow Motion feat for taking video, plus separate notification sound levels in the ringer sound levels in the Settings menu.
