ASUS’ Zenfone 2 is one of the best flagships currently on the market, offering high-end specs like 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for an affordable price tag. Since the line has been quite popular, ASUS has decided to expand the family with a few variations.

The company is currently hosting the ZenFestival event in Delhi, India, and on this occasion the device maker has unveiled a bunch of new Zenfone 2 models which will be available for purchase in the country soon.

But ASUS also announced the Zenfone Max, a phone that will hit retail locations sometime in October, as Engadget reports.

One thing smartphone owners keep complaining about is the insufficient battery life on their devices, but with the Zenfone Max, ASUS wants to offer a handset that can provide a prolonged life cycle.

ASUS Zenfone Max bets on extensive battery life

The key aspect of the ASUS Zenfone Max is its 5,000 mAh battery, one of the biggest you can ever hope to find nestled inside a smartphone. Alternatively, the Zenfone Max can be used as a power bank for charging other USB-equipped mobile devices.

Even with such a chunky power juicer on the inside, ASUS managed to maintain a pretty slim profile on the Zenfone Max, which boasts 5.2 mm / 0.2 inches at its thinnest point.

Besides the huge battery, the ASUS ZenFone Max will arrive on the market with a 5.5-inch display with an unknown resolution (but knowing ASUS, it’s probably going to be 1080p) and Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

Under the hood lives a quad-core Snapdragon 410 working hand in hand with Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM and probably at least 16GB of internal storage (although we’re not specifically told that).

On the imaging front, we have a rear-facing 13MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, laser auto-focus and a dual-tone LED flash. As for selfies and video chats, the 5MP frontal camera should be enough.

The phone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box with ASUS’ Zen UI on top. There’s also dual-SIM, dual stand-by connectivity, and LTE.

ASUS hasn’t said anything about pricing or availability for the time being, but we can expect the phone to arrive in October.
