The new phone looks a little too much like iPhone X

Asus just announced ZenFone 5, and it looks eerily similar to the iPhone X, sporting a similar notch on the top part of the screen.

One of the things that got Apple in hot water with their iPhone X was the famous notch that basically ruins the display with its presence. Unfortunately, the technology is not yet available to offer a complete edge to edge display and the integration of the frontal camera and speaker.

Until those phones arrive, all manufacturers including Apple will be forced to use a notch. The only alternative is to simply stop the display right below the camera and speaker. For now, most manufacturers have steered clear of this design decision, but they will have to face this problem very soon.

Looks like an iPhone X clone, but is it?

If you get the latest ZenFone 5 and iPhone next to each you, you will notice the similarity. The only two major differences are the size of the display, which is bigger for the Android phone, and the size of the notch, which is smaller for Asus.

Zenfone 5 comes with 6.2-inch Super IPS display that can support a resolution of 2246x1080. It also features a weird 19:9 aspect ratio that will probably be corrected by third-party apps with some beautiful black bars. Who even makes content with this aspect ratio?

On the other hand, thanks to the edge-edge-display, the phone has a 90% screen-to-body ratio, which is impressive. The fact that the notch is a little bit small is also helpful.

Also, Zenfone 5 has Snapdragon 636 chipset, and users can get a version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The 12MP back camera is fitted with a Sony's IMX363 sensor and a second camera, which has an unknown resolution. A 3300mAh battery should be enough, but until the device is launched it’s difficult to say just how much that display uses.

It’s important to mention that Asus also like to throw the work AI for a lot of its features, like AI Boost, AI Display, and even AI charging. Just how much “AI” is involved remains to be seen, but since everyone is now using it, Asus might as well do the same.

According to Asus, a more powerful version is also being launched, called Zenfone 5z, that comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and it’s powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset.

The pricing and exact release dates haven’t been made available just yet.
