We can't think of a scenario where Asus doesn't announce any new smartphones in Q1 2017. The handset maker can unveil new products either in January at CES or in late February at MWC.

One of the smartphones that could make their debut as early as January is known under a hard-to-remember model number: X00GD. Obviously, this isn't the phone's market name, but for the time being, we don't have any information concerning this.

However, we do know most of the phone's specs thanks to its listing at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission that certifies every smartphone that will make its debut on the market.

Asus X00GD isn't a large phone, as the handset is said to sport a 5.2-inch display that supports HD (720p) resolution. On the inside, the unannounced phone packs a 1.5GHz octa-core processor, but we don't know whether it's a Qualcomm or MediaTek chipset.

Considering the X00GD seems more like a mid-range phone, there's a high chance that it packs a MediaTek chip inside, as a cheaper solution.

A generous battery and Android 7.0 Nougat make a nice combo

The main selling point of Asus' smartphone could be the large 4,850 mAh battery that powers it. It's also worth mentioning that TENAA confirms the X00GD will be available in different variations based on the amount of memory: 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB.

On top of that, there will be Asus X00GD models with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB internal memory. No word on microSD card slot, but it's likely that there will be one.

On the back, the phone is supposed to feature a 13-megapixel photo snapper with dual-tone LED flash, while in the front there's a secondary 8-megapixel camera for selfies.

Asus X00GD measures 149.5 x 73.7 x 8.85mm and weighs 169.6g (battery included). The physical Home button hides a fingerprint sensor, while the 3.5mm audio jack and USB Type-C port complete the connectivity options one would need to operate the phone.

The smartphone will ship with the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system right out of the box, and it will be available in three color options: black, luxury gold and rose gold.
