It will be the second Tango phone commercially available

The first commercially available Tango-enabled smartphone made its debut on the market earlier this month. Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is a high-end device that takes advantage of Google's Project Tango functionalities, while at the same time offering a unique AR (augmented reality) experience to users.

But while Lenovo is the first handset maker to release a Tango smartphone, it will not remain the only one. According to sources in the supply chain, Asus plans to launch a Tango-enabled handset at CES 2017.

The unannounced smartphone will be released on the market as Asus ZenFone AR in early January and, as mentioned earlier, it will support the Google Tango Project. The information has also been confirmed by the company's CEO Jerry Shen.

Shen went on to say that the ZenFon AR would be packed with advanced functionality and performance, but it would also be priced competitively. However, he did not reveal any additional details on the phone's specs.

On a side note, Asus is also readying its 4th generation of ZenFone smartphones in Q2 2017. The first devices could be officially unveiled in February at the Mobile World Congress trade fair.

In this regard, Jerry Shen has noted that the new ZenFone 4 smartphones coming in 2017 will pack enhanced cameras to make them even more appealing to customers. These handsets should make it to the market soon after reveal, but Asus is likely to release them in waves.

We expect more details on the upcoming ZenFone 4 smartphones to emerge in the coming weeks. We're also pretty thrilled to find out more about the company's upcoming Tango-enabled Android smartphone.

Last but not least, Asus will launch one or more all-in-one (AIO) VR devices in Q3 2017, which will feature cameras, sensors and controllers, making them stand out from other models already available on the market such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, Shen confirmed.
