ASUS’ current flagship smartphone selling on the market is the Zenfone 2, but the company is also offering more affordable options.

The company has quietly unveiled a successor to the Pegasus X002, which launched back in December 2014. The new phone is dubbed the Pegasus 2 Plus X005 and will be sold in China for the time being. Probably, we won’t see the device arrive on the international market, but even so, we’ll tell you a few things about it.

The Pegasus 2 Plus arrives in the wild with a 5.5-inch full HD (1080 x 1920 pixel resolution) display and will be maintained alive by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor in combination with 3GB of RAM (as spotted at GSM Dome).

The new ASUS phone launches with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box

The phone also dons a 13MP main camera with LED flash and a pretty worthy 8MP frontal shooter for snapping selfies. Like most handsets announced in China, the Pegasus 2 Plus is a dual-SIM smartphone. Last but not least, the phone is kept alive by a 3,030 mAh battery and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box with Zen UI plastered on top.

That’s a pretty worthy mid-ranger we have right here, an obvious upgrade when compared to last year’s Pegasus X002. The handset arrived with a 5-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution plus a MediaTek MT6732 chipset fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

In the photo department, we had an 8MP main shooter plus a 5MP selfie camera. While we don’t know for how much ASUS will end up selling the Pegasus 2 Plus, we can tell you that the predecessor was offered with 4G on board for a super affordable $128 / €116.

The ASUS Pegasus 2 Plus will be made available in Rose Gold and White, and if the company manages to keep the wallet-friendly price tag, the phone might go on to become quite a hit with consumers.

In related news, we’ve recently told you that ASUS has all but confirmed the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for its ZenFone 2 flagship, which was originally launched with Android 5.0 out of the box.
