ASUS puts an armored Z170 into space with its new TUF board

Looking like being wrapped in some sci-fi material made for interstellar travelling and combat, the TUF - yeah it's pretty obvious - comes loaded with the powerful Z170 "Skylake" chipset and features sci-fi stuff like TUF Thermal Armor and TUF Fortifier technologies.

Clearly showing that's tough, because you can't have something that features brushed metal without repeating macho acronyms, the new ASUS card also feature things like TUF ICe, TUF Thermal Radar 2 and TUF Detective 2, all of which are primarily made to provide ultimate overclocking cooling, strength, easy monitoring, and control.

The new TUF Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 is packed with features that wrap around the TUF thermal armor design. It offers an 8+4 Phase Power design and features TUF components that include New Alloy Choke, Titanium Cap MOSFETs. Yep, Titanium MOSFET caps, because armor.

Needless to say this beefy motherboard features the LGA 1151 socket powered by a single 8-Pin connector, and the board itself is powered by a 24-Pin ATX connector. DRAM-wise, the motherboard is DDR4 DIMM ready with slots that can support up to 64GB of memory capacity, with speeds of 2133/2400 MHz.

Storage availability includes 8 SATA III 6 GB/s ports and two SATA Express ports. USB-wise, the motherboard carries two USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, a USB 3.1 (Type-A) and USB 3.1 (Type-C) port, USB BIOS Flashback switch, Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, a 7.1 channel audio jack with SPDIF, HDMI and Display Port outputs. PCIe-wise, the motherboard can hold three PCI-e 3.0 x16 (x16/x8/x8 Electrical) and PCI-e 3.0 x1 slots.

What makes it unique, however, is the TUF Frontier Armor that helps keep a better thermal load for the entire board. Looking like some space armor for starships, the Armors also has a fan underneath to cool off the internal components.

The TUF Dust Defenders protect Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1’s rear input/output (I/O) ports, while TUF ICe, TUF Thermal Radar 2 and TUF Detective 2 are an internal CPU thermal monitor, the Thermal Radar 2 offer 12 fan connectors while the Detective 2 is a companion app dedicated to offering detailed system information on desktop screens together with tablets and smartphones as well.

ASUS, unfortunately, did not disclose the pricing or the availability for such a battle rig, but we can only guess it won't come cheap.
