ASUS brings to the gaming display market its new MG278Q gaming-oriented monitor, equipped with a blazing-fast 144Hz refresh rate frequency on a 27-inch a widescreen quad high-definition (WQHD) form-factor.

The new screen is built to feature 1ms response time and is also equipped with AMD’s FreeSync technology for smooth, seamless gameplay that synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate with the graphics card’s output frequency.

The new ASUS MG278Q monitor is a new generation of displays that tries to push forwards the gaming standard resolution of 1080p to WQHD standards of 2560 x 1440 resolutions. The new display has a pixel density of 109 PPI (Pixels Per Inch), bringing up to 77% more onscreen desktop area that other 27-inch standard Full HD displays. In other words, it crams more pixels and resolution on the same display surface, offering a more detail-rich image coupled with better defined colors.

However, the main selling points of the new screen is its incredible 144 Hz refresh rate and a 1 ms gray-to-gray response time that is meant to eliminate smearing, ghosting and unwanted motion blur. These new features are also coupled with AMD’s FreeSync technology that enhances even more the general gameplay smoothness, eliminating screen tearing and lagging. Recently, Intel announced that it would support VESA’s Adaptive Sync with its integrated GPUs, indirectly supporting AMD’s FreeSync technology that is based on VESA’s license.

This way monitors like ASUS’ MG278Q equipped with FreeSync will benefit from not only AMD GPU’s integrated technology, but also Intel’s.

The new display is also meant for marathon gaming sessions since it features Ultra-Low Blue Light technology that reduces blue light emissions with up to 70% by employing four different blue light filter settings that can be accessed through the OSD (On Screen Display). With the Flicker-Free technology, any onscreen flicker will be reduced to bring an even more comfortable gaming experience.

Connectivity-wise, the ASUS MG278Q includes one dual-link DVI, two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort 1.2, with the last two outputs providing the native WQHD output. Additionally, the new ASUS monitor is equipped with two fast-charging USB 3.0 ports for an easier access of charging mobile devices.

Although no prices have been made available, ASUS announced the new MG278Q would be available in Asia, Europe in August, and North America in early September.
