Ubisoft confirms that it's going to include microtransactions with the upcoming Assassin's Creed Syndicate title. However, it insists that it's not holding the game's content hostage. Instead, the in-game payments are similar to those in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and cover powerful gear or items.

The Assassin's Creed series hasn't gone through the best of times in the last year or so, as Unity, the latest major installment, was plagued by issues and other bugs that weighed down the whole franchise.

For the upcoming Syndicate, Ubisoft promised that it learned its lesson, and many fans are looking forward to the game's arrival at the end of the month, although reports have claimed that some issues might be present when it launches.

Syndicate has microtransactions like Black Flag

Now, Ubisoft confirms a potentially thorny issue for those who want to buy the game: Assassin's Creed Syndicate has microtransactions.

Before fans fly out in an outrage, Ubisoft explains that the in-game payments are built in a way similar to Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. They are intended for those who don't have time or desire to explore every bit of the open world and cover powerful weapons and items.

Ubisoft Quebec's Development Director Francois Pelland emphasizes to IGN, via Gamespot, that all the transactions are optional and that players can enjoy Syndicate without paying a single extra cent besides its actual price.

“The model for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is quite similar to Black Flag, allowing players who do not have time to fully explore our huge game world to still be able to eventually acquire the game’s most powerful gear as well as other items. Rest assured, all of Syndicate’s content is available without paying anything additional and the game has been balanced such that microtransactions are 100% optional," he explains.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate arrives on PS4 and Xbox One on October 27, worldwide. PC users, on the other hand, have to wait until November 17 for their version of the game.
