This is the smooth launch that Ubisoft really needed

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate launched today on the PC platform, and it looks like all went smoothly, which is finally a piece of good news for Ubisoft.

The PC launch of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate didn't make a lot of waves, but we can all think that Ubisoft is pleased with that. None of the problems that accompanied the release of their previous title, Unity, has been spotted and all is well in Ubisoft-land.

The only problem is that there wasn't any kind of marketing campaign for the PC release of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, and the sales are not going to be great. Besides being placed on the Steam front page, little to none has been done to tell people that a new game in the franchise has just made its way onto the PC.

This directly contrasts with their Unity campaign, which talked a lot about just how many changes they made and how it was going to be extraordinary. Well, that didn't happen with Syndicate, and it's possible that the following thing will happen. Ubisoft's faith in the PC platform is already at an all-time low, and they might take the poor sales as a sign to stop releasing games altogether for PC users.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate has been very well received

If we take a closer look at the Steam reviews, we'll see that that game is marked "Very Positive," which is actually very good. The Steam community is a very powerful one, and they are usually right. It's interesting to notice that reviewers care little about the story or the gameplay, and talk more about the performance.

From the looks of it, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate has been optimized very well, and this is pretty much all that matters right now. We published the system requirements a while back, and they seemed pretty high, but people don't complain too much about it.
