AryaLinux developer Chandrakant Singh has announced today, September 7, 2016, the release and immediate availability for download of the AryaLinux 2016.08 GNU/Linux distribution.

Powered by the latest and most advanced Linux 4.7 kernel, which adds support for many new hardware components, AryaLinux 2016.08 comes after four months of development as a drop-in replacement for the AryaLinux 2016.04 release. New features include an entirely new system built from scratch using the latest GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6 compiler, as well as the newest Linux From Scratch version.

"AryaLinux 2016.08 focusses on bringing the latest, most bleeding-edge components of the Linux world into the distro that you create with your own hands. Building upon the stability of AryaLinux 2016.04, this release focuses on bringing about standardization by solidifying the already established method of building AryaLinux and provides support for additional Desktop Environments - KDE and LXQt," reads the announcement.

Now shipping with the MATE 1.15 desktop environment

Another major change in the AryaLinux 2016.08 release is the upgrade of the MATE desktop environment from version 1.12 straight to the 1.15 build, which is currently under testing for many other GNU/Linux distributions. In the same manner, the Qt-based supported desktop environments like KDE Plasma 5 and LXQt have been added in AryaLinux 2016.08 using the latest Qt5 toolkit.

Among the major new software versions added in AryaLinux 2016.08, we can mention the VLC Media Player 3.0 video player. The Kazam screen recorder replaces SimpleScreenRecoder, and a bunch of new application build-scripts have been added. Among them are Blender, Conky, Photivo, OpenShot, Putty, Remmina, Audacity, Plank, Clementine, Conky Manager, GRUB Customizer, and lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings.
