After announcing last month the release of his AryaLinux 2016.08 distribution with the MATE 1.15 desktop environment, developer Chandrakant Singh is now proud to announce the Xfce edition.

Powered by Linux kernel 4.7.2, which adds better support for newer hardware components, AryaLinux 2016.08 Xfce is using the Xfce 4.12 desktop environment by default and ships with fairly recent software components, including the LibreOffice 5.1.4.2 office suite, Qt 5.7.0 toolkit, GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6.1.0, and Mozilla Firefox 47.0.1 web browser.

"We have tweaked the desktop layout to resemble the more traditional desktop for increased usability and less clicks and mouse movements for window operations. Apart from making the system more stable and usable we have also given attention to the user interface elements and tried to make things as pleasant as possible," says the developer in the release announcement.

Parole and Exaile replace VLC Media Player and Audacious

The default application stack of AryaLinux 2016.08 Xfce Edition suffered some changes since the AryaLinux 2016.04 release, and it looks like the developer decided to replace the VLC Media Player and Audacious music player with the GTK+-based Parole video player and Exaile audio player. Additionally, there's now support for the Chinese language, implemented through the ibus and ibus-rime packages.

Last but not least, AryaLinux 2016.08 Xfce includes a language selector, support for Italian translations in the base-system build scripts, as well as an updated AryaLinux Installer that supports installations on both USB and removable disk drives. According to the developer, AryaLinux 2016.08 Xfce Edition is pleasant to work with and brings the lightweight Xfce4 desktop environment into a new light of freshness and usability.
