14 DAY TRIAL // Today, May 9, 2016, Chandrakant Singh from AryaLinux was proud to announce the release and immediate availability for download of the AryaLinux 2016.04 GNU/Linux operating system.
It appears that this is the first time we report on a release of the AryaLinux distribution, which is based on the systemd edition of the Linux From Scratch (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch (BLFS) projects.
AryaLinux is a source-based, desktop-oriented operating system built around the highly customizable and light MATE desktop environment, and latest release, AryaLinux 2016.04 ships with several new features and many improvements.
"This version of AryaLinux primarily focusses on creating a stable from-scratch system and eliminating as many small nuances as possible that sum up to a not-so-happy build experience," said Chandrakant Sing in today's announcement.
What's new in AryaLinux 2016.04
New features in the AryaLinux 2016.04 release include the MATE 1.12.0 desktop environment, support for GPT (GUID Partition Table) disks, dracut support to facilitate the creation of initrd, and removal of boot time warning messages.
UEFI support is also a new feature of AryaLinux, but in the way that one can build the OS from within another GNU/Linux operating system that is installed in a UEFI BIOS-based system. The AryaLinux ISO won't boot on UEFI systems at this time.
The list of changes continues with the addition of a script to help users create custom Live ISOs from the generated system, out-of-the-box Bluetooth support via Blueman and Blueman Applet, and Audacious as default music player software.
Xfburn replaces Brasero as the default CD/DVD burning software, the installer has been rewritten from scratch, a ccache script has been added, the Plymouth boot splash screen has been enabled by default, and most of the scripts run a lot faster now.
Lastly, it looks like most of the packages included in AryaLinux can now be built on multiple CPUs, including the base system and toolchain. You can download AryaLinux 2016.04 right now.
