The Ardour software has been updated recently to version 4.2, a release that brings a huge number of new features covering almost all of the application's core functionality. Ardour 4.2 has been released for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.

According to the comprehensive release notes, Ardour 4.2 brings with it new functionality like 176.4kHz support to the export sample rate list, support for defining disk buffering by presets, the ability to cancels loop by enabling recording when using loop-is-mode, as well as support for saving more markers and auto loop range in session templates.

Furthermore, Ardour 4.2 fixes numerous issues reported by users since the previous version of the software, including the region brush drag, multiple reversible commands bugs, swing quantization, cleanup of temporary files after export, looping, unintentional limits on track name length, flickering of various pop-up windows, state restoration in Audio/MIDI setup, and auditioning of audio at different sample rates.

"The Ardour project is pleased to announce the release of 4.2. This is primarily a bug fix release, but the list of fixes is long, and we've also replaced the audio/MIDI IO backend for Windows with completely new code which we think will address some of the issues faced on that platform. This release also sees the return of downloads for Apple PowerPC platforms," says Paul Davis, Ardour creator.
