Animoji and Memoji are pretty much two features that are kind of cool the first time you use them, but forget they exist the next day.

And yet, it looks like Apple thinks they’re super useful, so in the upcoming iOS software updates, the company wants to provide new functionality that could make them more widely used.

One of the updates could bring device synchronization for Memoji across all devices. As discovered by 9to5mac, iOS 12.1 comes with code indicating that at some point in the future, Apple devices may be able to automatically important created Memoji as soon as the same Apple ID is being used.

Technically, with this feature, Memoji would be synced to all devices belonging to one user, and this way they can be created on one device, but then used on all the others.

Powered by iCloud

The whole process would take place with iCloud power, and most likely, users will be allowed to choose whether their want Memoji to be synchronized or not.

At this point, Memoji only exists on modern iPhones, but Apple will soon bring them to the iPad when the next generation rolls out. The Face ID facial recognition system is being expanded to the tablet lineup as well, and a new iPad Pro could debut as early as October with such functionality.

The new iPad will be based on the same approach as the iPhone X, with Face ID and a bezel-less design allowing for increased screen estate. A notch, however, may not be necessary.

Memoji is expected to be one of the features available on the new iPads, though the sync functionality is likely to arrive at a later date, possibly when iOS 12.1 ships to all users. This is projected to happen by the end of the year, and Apple is also expected to release other features to new-generation devices, including dual-SIM support.
